Poetry allows the reader sloooooow way down, almost in a meditative way, and be thoughtful and reflective, at least if it’s good poetry. I think particularly in these very turbulent times in which we are living, there has never been a greater need for poetry, whether you are writing or reading it—or both! As you read through this week’s lessons and prompts, there will be the occasional stop and read a poem moments that you will have to do. No negotiating, no arguing, no promises to do it later because it is simply poem time. How about starting now? The beautiful Love After Love by the poet and playwright, Derek Walcott. It seems appropriate right about now to remember to love yourself and what you bring to the world, too. The link on Walcott is also an opportunity to hear from him and about him.
