2.38 Epic Poetry

I mentioned earlier that both The Iliad and The Odyssey are epic poems. The epic poem comes directly from the Greek poet Homer’s poems mentioned the line above. The language tends to be very high-falutin and dramatic. The purpose is to tell the story of a major historical event that is also a source of cultural pride. The epic also features lots of figurative language, speeches, and starts with the call to one of the nine Greek muses.
