2.31 PROMPT: Sonnets In Our Bonnets

Select one of the following prompts to write a sonnet.

  1. Write a sonnet about something in pop culture that you love, since traditional sonnets are about that very topic— love. Some topics may include a video game, tv show, song or band, an author, a character from a story, your favorite restaurant, or a favorite hangout spot at home or somewhere else.
  2. In Edward Albee’s play, The Goat…Or Who Is Sylvia? is a play about a man (Martin) married to a woman (Stevie) but falls in love with a goat (Sylvia). Write a sonnet from the perspective of loving something that would be considered highly unusual. Feel free to also write from a nonhuman point of view.
  3. Write a sonnet to the thing in life you love doing the most. A hobby? A place to travel? Playing a sport or some kind of exercise? Perfoming in a play? Taking a class? Hanging with friends?
  4. Write a sonnet to a pet you currently have or own from your past.
