Minor characters may not get the star billing, but they still play a crucial role in stories. They essentially have three responsibilities:
- They help provide or demonstrate more about the major characters, like the protagonist or antagonist.
- They help move or advance the story forward.
- Minor characters help set the tone for the scenes in which they appear. The major characters need the supporting cast, the minor characters, to play off of which may create a funny, serious, or sad situation.
